Latest update to ACRISS Car Classification System
ACRISS Clarifies Use of “Unspecified Fuel” Codes
To support greater consistency and clarity in the application of the ACRISS Car Classification System, ACRISS has updated the definitions of the “Unspecified Fuel” codes R and N (4th Character – Fuel Type/Air Conditioning).
The revised definitions now explicitly state that these codes are intended for Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles only. While this has always been the intended application, the additional wording removes any ambiguity and provides clearer guidance for vehicle classification across the industry.
| Fuel/Aircon | |
| R | Unspecified Fuel/Power Combustion Engine Air |
| N | Unspecified Fuel/Power Combustion Engine No Air |
“Unspecified Fuel” codes are used by car rental companies in their fleet where a specific fuel type cannot be guaranteed and is not known at time of booking (Petrol vs Diesel).
All other fuels still have their own codes including alternatives like Electric (BEV) and Hybrid (HEV and PHEV).
